News, Press & Events
Located at Victoria Forge in central Windermere, The Smith is our newest venture. Sarah has been gently coaxed back to her northern roots by the opportunity to refurbish this amazing space in the heart of Windermere. The Smith occupies a prime spot on the hill leading up to Booths Supermarket and we hope to be open sometime in February 2018. The space is double-height with large windows and even a little view of the iconic lake. Our refurb is starting shortly and when finished we will be an inviting space to enjoy Origin coffee, a grilled cheese sandwich & cake during the day and to savour a glass of wine and some cheese & charcuterie in the evenings. A new website will be up and running shortly.
The Cogges Kitchen
Cogges Manor Farm and The Kitchen are now closed for the winter from today (Monday 4th December 2017), reopening on March 17th 2018.
The Rookery, Arthur's Hill, Marlborough Street, Faringdon.
It's a characterful space and is rightly used as a hub for the people of Faringdon and the outlying villages and communities in the Vale of the White Horse. We moved in at the end of April 2017 and have just launched our popular all day veggie-centric menu. We've renovated the outside of the building as well as decorating the inside and our friend, skilled craftsman Paul has done some beautiful signage for us including gold leaf in the windows and we know that they've been much admired - (you know who you are ;) ! Come down and take a look, if you haven't already...
We use the same fantastic coffee that we use at our other sites- especially roasted for us by Lynsey Harley- a hugely respected and popular figure in the UK coffee industry. We also have regular guest coffees from our favourite artisan roasteries around the country. With so many places locally all doing the same old coffee, we pride ourselves on showcasing something different and truly artisan. Think North Star Leeds, Roundhill from Radstock, Nude, Jericho Coffee Traders and Missing Bean plus any others we think worthwhile. Our beans are also available to buy and we can grind them to order.
We are now OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK!
Our lovely new cook, trained pastry chef Lucy will be joining us in a few weeks and we're looking forward to her freshly baked cakes and seasonal specials.
VALENTINE'S SUPPER by CANDLELIGHT
Here at the Smith, we're nothing if not romantic! And to celebrate St Valentine's Day, we've decided to do a pop-up bistro night. Table linens, candlelight and some beautiful food and wine. Tickets are very limited so get yours from Coffeesmith now!
SUNDAY TIMES TOP 25 COFFEE SHOPS IN THE UK- WE'RE IN!
We were very excited to get a call in December from the Sunday Times telling us that Coffeesmith was being included in their top 25 UK Coffee Shops feature in 'The Dish' supplement.
And some of our other favourites made the grade too. If you are ever in Falmouth, Cornwall, do check out Espressini on Killigrew Street and their offshoot, Espressini Dulce on Arwenack Street. Likewise, Colonna & Smalls in Bath is another fave of ours- in fact Rob and Islay will be paying them a visit on Monday!
REVIEW IN CRUMBS MAGAZINE- THE COTSWOLD EDITION
Thanks to our friends at Crumbs who visited us on a scorching hot day at the end of July and have just published a lovely review below of The Cogges Kitchen. (NB- they were Rob's cinammon buns- not mine!) ST
COFFEESMITH AT THE PLOUGHING MATCH & COUNTRY FAIR
This Saturday, 24th September, Coffeesmith will be at the Fairford, Faringdon, Filkins & Burford Ploughing Championships & Country Fair. This year the venue is Donkeywell Farm, Quenington (near Fairford), Cirencester GL7 5DH from 8.30am to 4pm.
Come and visit the Coffeesmith stand where Rob and Pete will be serving our fantastic coffee, other hot beverages plus home-baked cakes and scones.
We attended the Ploughing Match last year as spectators and it really was a wonderful family day out, with falconry displays by Millet's Farm, fairground rides, heavy machinery, beautiful animals plus competitions. We couldn't get a decent coffee last year though, which is why Coffeesmith has taken a pitch for this year! And we will be entering Bingo into the dog race again (we aren't expecting a win, but anything would be better than last year's disgrace!)
See you there!
Coffeesmith is thrilled to be nominated in the Best Cafe Category of the Muddy Stiletto Awards for the second year running. In fact, last year we were runners up, so let's hope that this year we can win it! We can't do that without your help though, so please vote for us at http://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/vote/cafe/
Cogges and Coffeesmith have both been mentioned in the new edition of the fantastic Great British Food Magazine this month and in fact The Cogges Kitchen is their featured Cafe of the Month for May.
May 2016- The last few months have been a blur whilst getting The Cogges Kitchen up and running. Lots of tweaks have been made to the menu and the set up to make it run efficiently and cope with the enormous demand at peak times. That has really taken us by surprise but we are so thrilled and grateful for the support of the Cogges Heritage Trust, our neighbours at St Mary's Church Cogges and of course all of our visitors and customers.
December 16th 2015- Please see our new blog post regarding our plans for our new site- 'The Cogges Kitchen'.
We are delighted to let you all know that our second site will be opening in the New Year in Witney.....more details to follow. Thanks for all of your amazing support!
STOP PRESS!!!!!! We've been nominated in the Cotswold Awards 2015 in the Best Cup of Coffee and Best Cafe categories! So far we are always the bridesmaid, never the bride in these things, so we'd be so grateful if you'd vote for us here:
We are featured in the latest November 15 Edition of the fabulous foodie magazine, Crumbs (Cotswolds Edition). It was a great pleasure to choose our own favourite local places to eat out for the 'Little Black Book' feature. Copies are available across the Cotswolds at fine eating establishments (such as Coffeesmith) or you can see us here:
We've had lots of enquiries recently about when we are next doing one of our Wine Nights or Evening Events. Autumn is upon us, the nights are drawing in and the smell of woodsmoke is in the air- what better way to spend a chilly evening than eating seasonal food and drinking good wine with friends?
So, in honour of this (our favourite season), we've decided to do something a little different this time. We will be hosting an Autumn Dinner at Coffeesmith on Saturday 24th October at 7:30pm.
Caraway , potato & Oxford Blue cheese soup served with sourdough bread
Slow cooked Kelmscott Belly of Pork with juniper & apple served with baked mashed potato and seasonal vegetables
Chocolate chestnut truffle cake with hokey pokey
Wookey Hole Cheddar with crispbreads
(Vegetarian option available- ask us!)
Red and White Wine will be available to buy by the bottle or glass on the night as well as local organic Cotswold liqueurs- the perfect accompaniment to cheese.
Tickets are £25 in advance and limited in number. Get yours from the shop.
We hope you can join us for this wonderful seasonal feast.
